The SMTMAX automatic tank drain is a nice product. It is quiet, and well built. I have only used one other type of tank drain and that one was scary loud. This thing is really quiet. It doesn't scare me at all. I think that is because it uses a motor to open a ball valve nice and slow instead of using a quick acting solenoid. The controller is a separate box (nice painted steel box) from the valve, so you can mount it wherever you need it. It is programmable in time between cycles (period) and drain time (duration) so it can be set to open once every hour or anywhere up to once every 99 hours. The duration can be set from 1 second to 99 seconds. Pretty sweet little tank drain. I would recommend it and I am picky. My only complaint is the way you have to program it. Hold the set button for 5 seconds and then hold the manual drain button for 8 seconds. Then click the time button to set duration. I would have paid a bit more to have a 3 position toggle switch for Run/Duration/Period and 3 push buttons for Manual Drain, Up, Down. Even so, I give it 5 stars.
